Parallel Cards - the next wave of NFTs are... physical cards?
As the NFT craze continues, Parallel Cards drop an NFT with utility and physical card perks too..

NFT Slate Fam:
Parallel is a card game built on top of Ethereum. The cards are both NFTs and certain NFTS [SE] can be used to obtain physical cards. (Explained below)
A lot of people are comparing this game to Magic: The Gathering & Hearthstone, two trading card games that are very popular. Now with NFTs in the mix, a card game like Parallel can offer liquidity, trading & other creative ways to use the cards/digital assets online.
Another reason people are so interested in Parallel is because the art is actually legit. A lot of it was designed by @oscarmarstudio, a cofounder and the Art Director of Parallel.

Parallel Cards - the next wave of NFTs are... physical cards?
Parallel has blown up on twitter, being mentioned by a lot of the top NFT accounts, but the project actually released their first cards in March.
The first release of cards back in late March had under 300 participants. The team realized that their original pricing of the cards for the pre sale was too much to complete a deck (of 40 cards) so they worked out rewards for early community members to compensate for their pre sale prices.
This led to a Prime Key for card holders and Special Edition cards that would retain their rarity. This is consistent with what we’ve seen so far, the Parallel team is investing big into making the community experience fun and collaborative.
The Cards
Parallel is a sci-fi future where space travel is possible and different human groups separated and evolved into different “species” with different advancements and capabilities. This translates into the 5 different human groups below, which as you can see above, are labeled on different cards:
Earthen
Marcolian
Augencore
Kathari
Shroud
There is also a “Universal” card which I assume can be used for any human group.
For a more in depth explanation of Gameplay, I suggest reading through this article by Yunt Capital, who have been stellar on their Parallel coverage - https://medium.com/yunt-capital/wtf-is-parallel-340b72332bc5
So you have these 5 human groups & the Universal cards, but Parallel cards go one step further with other kinds of cards.
There are:
Standard Cards - basis of your deck
Prime Cards - Super strong cards / very rare
Special Editions [SE] - Holofoil cards
Assets - Prime Keys & Catalyst Drives
Perfect Loops (PL) - Same edition size as SE / playable
Concept Art - Rare collectibles with only an edition size of 8.
Card Backs - flex cards . not used in gameplay, more like collectibles
Masterpieces - Elite collectibles - they are 1/1 and provide 1% royalties on all secondary sales.
@0xSisyphus on twitter, the guy who originally tipped me off on Parallel cards, has been openly buying up the masterpieces and offering a large amount of ETH for people to sell them to him. He is betting big on the royalty share of Parallel. Right now he’s had a high ROI as Parallel prices continue to increase for Masterpieces.
The Drop:
Parallel did their drop on August 1st, but instead of creating a gas war, they allowed you to reserve your packs up front with just a click of a button. Then later in the night they allowed you to buy the packs you reserved, spacing out the time when gas was being used. This allowed for no high gas fees because of the drop, making it more accessible to smaller players.
After you reserved and purchased the pack, you could open your cards, but they weren’t sent to your actual Ethereum address right away. There was a 24 hour dispersion period for the cards. There were some issues with this, as some people had to wait awhile to get their cards, but the Parallel team has announced they’ve come up with some ways to speed up the process for next time.
Current & Future Plans:
The Physical Cards:
One thing that Parallel is trying to do is combine the physical and the online. As the game develops, the Parallel team has dropped some sneak peeks of what they plan for the cards.
Here are two quick videos of the Parallel cards posted by the Parallel twitter:
- Cool holo cards
- Cards interacting with phone
So now you’re probably thinking, how do I get these cards??? Does everyone get one?
After doing some snooping on twitter, here is a message from the Parallel team:
So the Holofoil = [SE] that you will see on many of the cards. This means that that style of card will not be minted anymore than it’s original mint. So for instance, this card is an SE and will only ever have an edition of 76. Because it is SE = Holofoil, you will need an NFT to be able to get a physical card. Each NFT will only have one chance to get the card, so once you get the card, that NFT cannot be redeemed for another card by a future owner.
Interesting Renting Capabilities
Many people refer to renting “cryptopunks” as a status signal or something, but critics are saying that it’s as lame as renting a lambo. On the other hand, renting Parallel cards could offer a much higher ROI. If you have a big match coming up, renting someone’s card to add some more firepower to your deck adds big time utility/demand. We could see some crazy financial creativity with Parallel cards, looking to see whether Parallel builds this out or a creative dev works some magic.
$Prime
Not much is known about this, but Parallel will have a token for its ecosystem called $Prime. As we learn more, we will update you guys on this! The Prime keys will be involved and more info should come out in late August.
Next Drop -
The next drop is scheduled for late October, if you want to get in on it, make an account at Parallel.life & get ready for when October rolls around.
Closing Thoughts
Parallel is offering a lot of depth to the project with physical cards, revenue shares, and an entire new universe to create, will they live up to the hype?
With so many NFTs, currently more than 700k on Opensea, is this project too much to keep up with?
I’ve heard that the Parallel team is large in terms of most crypto teams and is backed by some great partners, and for my own cards sake, I believe this project will be a success.
I will say that right now everything is very hot so we will see if the interest wanes as we wait for the next drop in October and gameplay in the coming months.
